WEBODA ELDERS HOME
Mrs. Ramya Seneviratne of Madan Arachchi has donated 01 rudi of land for the Women’s Home for the Elderly, which is located in a rural environment in Kirillawatta, Webada, at the corner of Kirillawala Idigahamula Junction on the Colombo City Road and one mile on Webada Road.
Established on 06.12.1991, about 15 resident mothers are currently being cared for in this nursing home. After cutting the first sod on 06.12.1990, this house was built in a short period of time. The estimated cost of this was Rs.950000.00. (a building 107 feet long and 27 feet wide) as another opportunity to advance the elderly home service.
The women’s old age home, which was started on 06.12.1990, was completed within a short period of one year, i.e. on 06.12.1991. On that day, an all-night charity sermon was given, and on the 7th, 25 Lords were given a Sanghik donation.
Mr. M. A. P. Mantriratne has donated a lot of money for the construction of the Wabada house and has received a lot of support from the villagers of Wabada.
Mr. Justice of the Peace H.P. Gunaratne and its National Director Mr. Leel Gunasekara who accepted the special invitation of the society and participated in the opening ceremony, Mrs. Ramya Seneviratne who donated the land and M.A.P. Mr. and Mrs. Mantriratne and the guests were welcomed by the executive council led by the president of our society Mr. KP Sumanapala and led by the band and the scout group of the orphanage.
Mr. Somadasa Amgudeniya, Honorary Secretary, gave the welcome speech on behalf of the Society, and the speech of thanks was given by Mr. D. P. Suriyaarachchi, Honorary Compiler of the Building Committee.
Mr. A.R.Hettiarachchi, Honorable Compiler of Elderly Housing Committee, presented the budget report of the housing building to the assembly, and Mr. Leel Gunasekara and Mr. K.G.G. Nilame addressed the assembly on behalf of the invited guests.
A current account has been opened at the Kiribathgoda People’s Bank for the convenience of maintaining the income and expenses of the Women’s Nursing Home in an orderly manner. Since the men’s nursing home is registered, there is no need to obtain special approval for the registration of the women’s nursing home, so the women’s home has also been registered with the social services department.
Mrs. Chandra Kumari Talpe, who was a retired teacher, was selected as the first warden of the women’s home for the elderly, and Ms. M. M. Babynona was selected for kitchen work through an interview. DR.Podimanike’s mother was the first resident to enter the women’s home.
